So, I started watching Torchwood, cuz I wanted to be kinda all caught up with what's been going on in that show by the time we get to next week's Doctor Who, when Captain Jack makes his reappearance. (Not upset that the weekend I'm away at a wedding is the weekend Who is pre-empted... of course, I've got a wedding to go to NEXT weekend too, so that sucks...damn)

Anyway... I've been watching the show... and it's been okay. Nice to see Jack again, though I miss him being more... wacky and in time an stuff, you know? And he's not hitting on people enough. He's a slut, come on!

Anyway... so, I've been warming to the characters a bit... I like Owen, because he's a jerk but he makes no apologies for it, and you pretty much know what you can get from him, yet he's solid, committed to the team and all that, which makes him a good guy too... nice depth of character. I like that Jack is not always a great guy, he can be a real bitch and yell alot and that's good too. I never would trust Ianto again after Lisa tho... just... No. But I guess since Jack can't die, he's not too worried (though, there is the rest of the team to think of you know) I like Gwen, she's got a little bit of something that reminds me of Billie Piper, just a teeenny bit, enough that I like her :o) And Tosh, well, I'd been waiting for some more character development from her...

Then along comes episode six - Countrycide.

If there is not another single good episode, I will love this show simply for this one. Outstanding. Charcter development out the wazoo! Continuity! Past events being brought up, having an effect!!! It was very simply, bloody brilliant. I was blown away. I loved it. The 'last kiss' discussion, and Tosh's obvious feelings for (willfully?) oblivious Owen, and the sexual tension between him and Gwen, and Tosh's jealousy, and Ianto's pain over Lisa, and accusing them all of having forgotten... that was just some wonderful acting all around, verbal and non-verbal. And the actual premise of the episode. Downright frakking freaky!!! Why? For the very simple fact that it WASN'T Aliens, just simple twisted frakked up human folk. And brutal and bloody and the swearing and the sex talk and... just so much that you WOULD NOT SEE on American TV... and so brilliantly done. Not tawdry or over the top or glorified. Real. Simple fact. So frelling refreshing!!! And Gwen's reaction to getting shot! OH! Freaking out, so wonderfully done, and then her NEED.TO.KNOW... to Understand WHY! Wonderful. Culminating with that fantastic scene at the end, with Gwen talking about how it's changing her, making her see the world differntly (OMG! Character Growth!!!!) and how she's got no one to talk to about it... until we see it's Owen who comes up behind her!!!ZOMG! She's cheating on her boyfriend!!!! Real stuff! On TV!!! I can't believe it!!

HEHEHEH

So, yeah. Really, really impressed with that episode. Just blew me away, as you can probably tell. I don't know what the rest of the season holds, but this episode proves that it can be a damn fine show.

Fan-girling over ;o)

Torchwood is great! I'll admit I cheated and caught it on YouTube as soon as they were posted. BBC America will be airing it starting it June so I'm going to as a friend to record it for me so I can see it on a "real" screen.

Jack is great as expected and darker since having been left on the Game Station alone with all the dead bodies will have that kind of effect on someone. I do miss the lighter, flirty Jack but going by the latest trailer from the BBC, he will be back.

Countrycide was freaky for the main reason you cited: no aliens, just twisted humans. I also liked that everyone on the team had a part, no one was shorted. In the new season I hope Ianto and Tosh get more stories.

Just wait till you get to the end.... We will need to discuss!

Oooohhh, the last three! "Comabt" is an Owen episode. "Captain Jack Harkness", well, I don't think I need to tell you who takes front and center there. "End of Days" is an ensemble piece and you will be blown away.

Again, we'll need to talk when you're done. Feel free to email if you want. : )

I know there's a lot of criticism of Torchwood, but I actually really, really enjoyed it. I don't OMGLOVE it the way I love Who, but that's perfectly fine. :D

But otherwise, I really, really enjoyed it. It's NOT Doctor Who AT ALL, which is something I think turned a lot of people off. But it's got some great layers and it could be entertaining and dark. And bisexual! And absolutely NOT American in any sense of the word.

It ends really well, too, so do post again when you get there. We can crazy theorize! *G*
