Wednesday of the DAY OFF variety!
Dec. 6th, 2006 10:58 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So, one of the hubby's co-workers who works the evening shift was sick yesterday, and the other co-worker who works the evening shift had a special cooking class he really wanted to go to (Christmas Baking) so Todd offered to stay and cover the shift. Sw we ended up working from 7am to 9:15pm, almost two complete shifts, in one day.
As a result - Day Off today!!! Yay! To do with whatever I want! I see tree decoration in my future, maybe some sewing, or more Christmas baking :oD Hell, I might even write, or maybe chat with far away friends. It's sooooo full of possibilities!! :oD
And it's windy as all get out here, again. Did I tell you how the wind blew part of our eavestrough (or gutter, for those who use that term) on Friday night? Well, technically I guess it was Saturday morning, as it was 1am! We still haven't heard back from Sears about getting it fixed. Hrmph.
Anyway, I hope you're all doing well on this middle of the week day.
And, because I have grown horribly, irresponsibly lax in my Firefly thoughts:
Amongst the more common pairings of the Firefly crew in fandom, which do you think is the LEAST believable/in character??
For me I think it's probably Simon/Jayne, or Simon/Mal. I know that the latter at least is extremely popular, but personally I just don't see it. What about you? Any pairing you think is absolutely unbelievable? Reasons why?

Date: 2006-12-06 05:06 pm (UTC)Which is not to say that I have a problem with people who are into that pairing, it's just not my thing.
Have a good day off! Mmm, baking fun.

Date: 2006-12-08 03:34 am (UTC)And as you say, I've got no problem with anyone liking any pairing, just don't particularly follow it myself *G*
Didn't get any baking done, actually, just relaxed all day, which was just as good, thanks!

Date: 2006-12-06 06:19 pm (UTC)Unbelievable ships... wow.. this is so not hard... I will name them by name (and no doubt miss a hundred, but still):
Rayne -- seriously? are you kidding me?
Jayne/Male Character -- sorry, he's not gay. I mean, okay, I guess everyone is probably a little bit bisexual, acordding to Kinsey and whatnot, but Jayne isn't the type who, if we was, would admit it.
Malver -- again, seriously? At least, not in the incarnations I see. It would have to be twenty-years in the future, when Mal stops thinking of River as a kid, for this to be possible. The man holds himself to high standards, folks. He just doesn't think of her that way.
Wash/Anyone but Zoe -- they were happily married. And then he was dead. I gues it works in AU fic, but not in anything trying to take place during cannon.
Simon/Mal -- huh? I can see this before a Jayne/man ship, but... no, they just... no.
Non-cannon pairings that I am secretly growing to like:
Inara/Nandi -- who knows what they did in the past?
Inara/Simon -- the dynamic is starting to interest me
Zoe/Jayne -- but, not in a romantic way so much as "it ends up happening, and might not be for the best" way
Jayne/Helen -- the HoG whore, remember? He brushed her hair! It's sorta cannon, just not quite.

Yeah, I just can't see it. Jayne is pretty darn comfortable in his het male role IMO.
Malver -- again, seriously? At least, not in the incarnations I see. It would have to be twenty-years in the future, when Mal stops thinking of River as a kid, for this to be possible. The man holds himself to high standards, folks. He just doesn't think of her that way.
Yeah, this one is too squicky for me. Like you say, she's a kid, and Mal's not going to get into a relationship like that. Plus, they're both so damaged, I just dont' think they would be good for each other in a relationship sense.
Wash/Anyone but Zoe -- they were happily married. And then he was dead. I gues it works in AU fic, but not in anything trying to take place during cannon.
Yeah, I agree again. I can't see Wash with anyone else, he was totally devoted to Zoe. And I'm not really interested in that kind of AU fic to be honest (but then, my fic interests are pretty narrow anyway *G*)
Simon/Mal -- huh? I can see this before a Jayne/man ship, but... no, they just... no.
Yeah, no... I don't see it as a possibility at all in either of their characters. They just don't work for me.
NOW! On to your secret non-cannon pairings!!!
*SQUEEES* at the Inara/Nandi!!! OH, I am soooo in love with this idea... I've been infatuated with it for quite some time now, and I think it's sooo plausible that there was something between them at some point, and I just Love Nandi so much. Heee!
Inara/Simon, I see less... but I read it because I have friends who like the pairing :o)
Zoe/Jayne, I could maybe believe, post BDM, but like you say, not so much in a romantic way.
Jayne/Helen!! Heeeee! I love that he was brushing her hair. I think that it says sooo much about his character (exactly what I can only speculate, but it's so intriguing!)
Great answers! Thanks so much for playing!! :oD

Date: 2006-12-06 11:04 pm (UTC)I think Simon/River. They had a brother and sister love for each other, I don't see the incest factor. I don't think that's what Joss intended when he wrote the characters and I don't think the actors intended to bring in that dynamic. Also, having a brother, it especially squicks me out :S

Date: 2006-12-07 01:32 am (UTC)Mal/Simon - why is this everywhere? Why? And Mal/Jayne, just - how does anyone figure that?

Date: 2006-12-08 03:47 am (UTC)It's true tho... Mal with River is very squicky and wrong, she's like, half his age or less.... and Mal with Kaylee... that is just soooo not their dynamic. It's all sorts of adult authority figure taking advantage of somone in their charge. Just wrong...
