Good Morning, Flist!!!
Having recovered from a week of the LJ blahs, I bring you
What's Goin' On with teh 2x2?
Last Thursday the hubby and I went to the Pacific Mall, which is entirely Asian, and I found the PERFECT lantern/lamp for my sitting room!! LOOK!! Look at my Lantern!! :oD

Isn't it pretty? Isn't it Chinese and perfect?
And (at the hubby's insistence) I bought a reproduction of a silk painting that is in a fold-out book that stretches 5 metres long, of a very famous Chinese painting.

It is teh Coolest evah!!! Here's an animated scrolling look at the painting!
And I bought Pillow Cases!!! And stopped at JYSK on the way home to get pillows to fit inside them! LOOK!!
Chair with Pillows

Chest with Pillows

Gold and Brown Pillow

Gold and Red Pillow

Peach with Blossoms Pillow

Green with Leaves Pillow

Pile of Pillows

Aren't they shiny and pretty?! :oD
The bad thing was that when I got home Thursday night I was missing one of the tassels from my lantern! So much for my happy mood :o/ So I was pouty and whingey for the whole night, but the next day I went back to the mall on my lunch break – and the store wasn't open!! Wahhhh! So I walked around until 12 noon, and then I saw the woman opening up the store! And she saw me, and recognized me, and then went OH! and plucked my missing tassel from her shelf!!!! It had fallen off in the store and she had found it and kept it safe for me! Happiness again!!
On Saturday my Dad came over and installed it for me!! He also brought me Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in DVD Audio!! WOAH! Does it ever sound Awesome on the surround sound system!!!! Quadraphonic sound – brilliant!
Then we went shopping and I got the material for my Curtains – 70% off too!!!

Isn't it pretty?! Isn't it opulent?! And I Finally got some red pillar candles! :oD

I also bought a curtain rod and some hold backs for the curtains once they're made :oD

My room is almost complete!
While we were shopping, I had to be strong an let two pretty red glass lanterns go (but I wanted them so) but the nifty thing we found was a Giant Lion Head to go on our wall! I call him Aslan, of course *G* and he's at the bottom of our stairs! I will get you a picture of that asap too!
Sunday was spent baking!!! We made Macaroons, which never hardened! (bastards) So I think they will become gooy balls soon. I also made Cherry Balls, my favouritest cookie evah!! *hearts* and some Rice Krispie treats for my hubby. And also several cups of a party mix that is yummy!! We also have several types of Christmas candy around now, but no Satin mix! I haven't found any yet :o/
Somehow, it suddenly became okay for it to be Christmas time on Thursday, and I think I'm going to be in the spirit this year. We've put up our new Christmas lights – we went and bought some LED lights. I don't like the way their light looks as much, but they are more eco-friendly and use less energy and cost less money in the long run, so… all the old dangly lights went to Value village. Oh, speaking of Christmas stuff, we bought these tubs at Storage Solutions for storing your ornaments – they have cardboard separators, so the hubby spent a while going through all our ornaments and filling two bins that hold 75 ornaments each – and we need at least one more bin!! *G* We have a lot of ornaments *G* And next weekend will be TREE DAY!! wheeee!
On the downside this week, I have to take the car in for a coolant flush and oil change tonight – an hour and a half at $150 bucks… bleah….
And Wednesday is the second of my two dentist appointments, Ugh. I'm finally used to the repaired filling I had done last week (though my jaw is stillllll aching!!!) and now I get to go in again.
On the upside, as I said, tree day next weekend, plus I'm going to a friend to make myself a pattern for either a 14th century Cotehardie, or a 12th century Bliaut (or both if I'm lucky) … I think I'm going to lean towards the Bliaut though, because I know I look good in that dress!! Plus, long sweeping sleeves! Pretty! :oD
And, on the writing front… finally started writing a bit of the Epilogue for Choices this morning. After struggling with absolutely NO desire to write it for the past two weeks, I think I might be back on track again! Also on the plus side, I have been writing RP with
terimaru and it's been so much fun! And we might even get another story out of it :oD
Till next time, stay shiny, flist! And if you actually read all this, you are awesome!

Hehehe Yes, it is... it's called Qing Ming Shang He Tu if you wish more information... I'm educational and informative as well as pic spammy *G*

Oh, they are garments, dresses if you will.
Here's a very basic idea of a cotehardie
And here is a very basic idea of a bliaut
There are men's styles too. An image search on google will give you lots and lots of pictures of people wearing ones they've made, as well as illuminations that people use as reference. :o)

Ooooh, girly retro fashions. ;) The sleeves on the second one are certainly impressive. Do you know why they are that big? Status symbol? So impractical, it can only be a rich person who doesn't have to work?

*beams* Yay! Spreading the happy happy joy joy!! I wish I could invite you to see it all personally, well, I can *invite* you, what I mean to say is that I wish you could *be* here to see it all personally... I'd invite all my best girls ;o> and we'd drink tea and dress pretty and watch firefly (through the blind on the tv in the other room) *giggle*

I found this: Qing Ming Shang He Tu (清明上河圖) meaning the riverside scene at the day of Qingming festival was painted by one of the Song Dynasty's greatest artists, Zhang Zeduan (960 -1127) about 980 years ago. It is a very long hand painted silk handscroll and has been kept in the Palace Museum, Beijing, China. It is on the top list of Chinese art treasures in China and only shown to public every 25 years. The last exhibition of this painting was held in Shanghai Museum, Shanghai, China in early January 2003 and it attracted hundred thousands of visitors. The painting presents the busy life in an ancient Chinese capital city with fine details: a large rainbow bridge, busy streets, shops and restaurants, a river with boats, animals, carriages, trees, hundreds of people doing different things...

Pretty much. Fashions moved from the straight cut, minimizing of waste patterns to big, wasteful styles that indeed showed off wealth and were simply meant to look pretty. Some stuff got very ostentatious. In the medieval group I play with, we're all supposed to be Ladies and Lords, so the garb is appropriate. And fun to make :oD

Date: 2006-11-29 03:52 pm (UTC)I hear ya *G* I already wondered what i might make if I have enough fabric left over *GRIN* Though, Tudor is a little late for me ;o) I'm sure I could make some fabulous garb out of that fabric!
