browncoat2x2Here it is, my finished browncoat:
And here it is with the buckles open. They don't hang quite as losely as they should yet, but I need to give the straps holding them on time to loosen up. But overall, I'm thouroughly pleased with how it's turned out!
The buckles that I am so pleased with. Shiny, huh? I need to tarnish them some ;o)
Open and unhooked. The round parts of the clasp side haven't been dished yet, they're still flat, because I wasn't sure I was going to bother with dishing them until the last minute.
Here I'm dishing them with a (crappy) ball pein hammer and one of my oatmeal hot/cold bags - it was all I had, so the dishing isn't great, but it's rim made, right? No worries!
Close up of the buckle closed - you can see it's a little 'higher' than it really should be, but I figure it's passable for a first try. I can always make new ones if it really bothers me, but so far, I'm okay with 'em.
And a close up of it open, just to give you an idea of how the whole 'spring' thing works.
Here's a close up of the lapel facing I was talking about. It should be at least twice as wide and extend down the whole front of the coat, but I ran out of leather.
And here I am, one happy browncoat. I need to get some appropriate under-coat wear, something better than a fish-covered t-shirt ;o) Also ignore my sick bed-head hair please ;o)
And a couple more... I swear by my pretty leather browncoat, I will end you! ;oD
And one more to go out in style: I Aim to Misbehave, baby!!! :oD
So, there you have it. Maybe 12 hours actual labour, with a couple hours of careful study and planning. One browncoat for about $125 bucks and maybe 15 hours work. It was definately worth it! :oD

Date: 2009-02-27 01:23 pm (UTC)I have no idea how much the brass would cost - I just happened to have a few scraps that a friend gave me - so I'd have to find that out, and how much of it I'd have to buy at a time.
If I can find out, I'll let you know :o)
