browncoat2x2: Painting of C-3PO on Tattooine (FF Fangirl Heaven)
[personal profile] browncoat2x2

I'm quite certain we had more people in attendence this year than last year, which is Great!! And there were some newbies in the crowd too, which means interest is still growing for Firely/Serenity (of course it is!!)

I arrived a little early and found the Green P parking lot a street north of Philthy McNasty's, where we'd be having the after screening shindig, and then, because my knee is still giving me problems (seeing the doctor on tuesday) I took a cab down to the theatre. $5.50, and worth every penny to spare the knee.

Went to a little place on the corner - The Longest Yard - for some lunch (Greek salad and diet pepsi, yum!) then went to the theatre and there was [livejournal.com profile] elizalavelle in the middle fo a crowd of adoring fans. She already had her CSTS t-shirt on - and a Fruity Oaty Bar button!!!! - which I admired greatly (GIMME!). Oh, and it was great to see her too ;oD *hugs*

Inside, things were just starting to get organized, so I helped out were I could. I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to bring a container for the ticket stubs to go in (bad 2x2!) but [livejournal.com profile] lionnesss found me one (she was in the Zone~!) so all was good. then, when the goodie bags arrived, I sat myself down and started inserting one sitcker (either a Browncoats or Blue Sun) into each bag. Kate joined me when she arrived, and we made quick work of it. I was able to get a goodie bag with a fruity oaty bar button, so I was very happy.

Then I was given a Jayne Hat button from Heather for volunteering - they are *SO* awesome!! And both the buttons are the tiny, one inch size, which I love so much more than full sized buttons, so they were extra cool.

There was some miscommunication with the theatre staff (them not knowing they had to sell tickets or some such) but in the end, everything got done, and things ran pretty damned smooth from my perspective. [livejournal.com profile] styrofoam_guy and I took tickets at the door, and I dont' know what it was, but most people just instinctively handed their tickets to me for some reason, it was kinda funny. At one point the concession stand lineup was so long it was backing into the entrance to the theatre, so there was about 30 seconds of chaos until I asked Mike "Mr. Bandito" to organize the line, and then things were shiny!

Then the movie was starting, and the last of us went inside to our volunteer reserved seats. I sat with [livejournal.com profile] artemis_prime and the other Kate (surrounded by Kates) who had made an INARA DRESS!!!! (can we say "Fangirl Heaven") so I was in Excellent company all around. I especially enjoyed [livejournal.com profile] atemis_prime's "There she is! There's my baby!" when Serenity appeared on the screen for the first time. It'd been a bit of a while since I'd seen the movie, and seeing it on the big screen is really so much better than watching it at home. I made special effort to pay attention to the Blue Sun logos this time, because [livejournal.com profile] locker_monster had asked that question in a trivia game she'd sent to [livejournal.com profile] lionnesss at the first shindig I ever went to *G* It stuck with me.

After the show, as I was walking up the aisle to get some warmth!!! (we were *right under* the air condition, OMG COLD) there was [livejournal.com profile] noneofyours and [livejournal.com profile] willow_kat in the back row! They made it!!!

Then the door prizes were drawn and I did NOT win a single thing this year (the downside of more attendees *g*) and the auction, which seemed to do pretty good, though a LOT of people left before the auction began, unfortunately.

After that, we packed everything up and [livejournal.com profile] noneofyours, [livejournal.com profile] willow_kat and I cabbed it up to the restaurante (driven by a cabby who didnt' really listen to what I said about where we were going and ended up going over to Yonge intead of up Mount Pleasant so that we had to cross the street to get to the restaurant and it cost 50 cents more!!! harumph)

The Shindig was being held at Philty McNasty's, on the lower level. The place was full of Browncoats, which was really cool, and I mingled and wandered to and fro, and spent a goodly amount of time drooling over admiring [livejournal.com profile] styrofoam_guy's scratch built Serenity model *is in love* It is beautiful, just awe inspiring.

To get folk up and mingling, everyone was handed a card when they arrived and then they had to find their match to win a prize. Sadly, I found no match (sad 2x2) but it was a cool idea.

It took quite a long while to get some service but the place was understaffed (some other communication and RL stuff there) but the food was good when it arrived (though I warned against the sliders) and we ended up being given free tshirts and beer to make up for moving us when the CoorsLight/Maxim people had to set up.. but it was still a good night.

[livejournal.com profile] noneofyours wouldn't let me give her back her hat when I fliched it from her and everyone agreed that it suited me well (I *do* tend to like hats) so I am now the proud owner of a black, wool hat with little skulls upon it. Somehow fitting, dont' you think? Thanks darlin!!! (and the story is coming!!! I PROMISE!!)

I stayed till about 10:30 then headed out. Good day. OH! I almost forgot! I had the patches that [livejournal.com profile] artemis_prime designed that we had made up, and we sold about 45 of them, donating an extra $90 for Equality Now!!! Everyone really seemed to like them, and they do look awesome! I can see us probably ordering more in the future.

Anyway, waiting to hear on the totals raised, but I've no doubt we topped last years $2000 bucks!! Can't wait to see the total from all cities when all is said and done!! Hopefully we'll surpass last years, which was over $60,000!!!!

Awesome!

Ooh, it sounded like you had tons of fun. And all for a good cause, too. Makes me wish I had made the effort to go up to Edmonton for their CSTS screening.

You know, I remember making up some trivia questions for the first screening, but I don't remember the one about the Blue Sun logos. Or any of the other ones actually. :-D

Wow! That sounds like the greatest party ever! Maybe next year if I get to come up there, I'll plan it around this event. Did you think of Sushi and Sashimi in Mr. Universe's home??

*hugs*

It was a lot of fun. Good to see you there.

Yep, we're just a few blocks south of Yonge and Eg. (Well, halfway between Yonge and Mt. Pleasant, anyway.)

Could this city contain so much SQUEEE!!

HEE HEE, probably not. We'd shut down the city! *G*

Heya, darling! Sounds like you guys all had a fabulous time. I am soooo jealous. But I can live the experience somewhat through you, right? Right.

Hat! Movie! Dinner with Browncoats!!! OBVIOUSLY next year I should go up to Toronto and partake in all the festivities there. :D

I'd like to come more often, but I am usually rather broke and can't afford the GO (yes, I know how sad it is that I don't have $20 extra floating around), but I come when I can!

The whole thing was awesome. (And, yes, okay, I say that as a newbie to the Shindigs, but still.) Also, that hat really does look good on you. *g*
